"Massey European Sales, Inc. represents a new opportunity for Massey to create value for its shareholders and customers. As the world economies continue to emerge from the global recession, our European sales office will help us to increase metallurgical coal sales and take full advantage of improving market conditions," said Baxter F. Phillips, Jr., Massey Energy Company's President. The new sales office is centrally located in Europe and will help Massey better serve its existing European customers and identify and establish new customers in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Massey also announced the hiring of Andrea Penengo to head its new European sales office. Mr. Penengo was most recently Raw Material Sales Manager for East Metals SA, a subsidiary of the EVRAZ Group. Mr. Penengo has extensive industry experience and knowledge of global commodities markets. His experience includes marketing iron ores, cokes, and metallurgical and steam coals in Eastern and Western Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia.
Massey believes that the supply of high quality metallurgical coal will continue to tighten as the recovery in the global manufacturing sector continues. Massey's presence in Europe and Mr. Penengo's expertise will help Massey add significant shareholder value by expanding Massey's global customer base for exported metallurgical coal.
