Moers, a licensed massage therapist at the Massage Envy Spa clinic in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., was chosen to represent the brand from among thousands of therapists at the company's more than 950 locations nationwide. The 2014 Boston Marathon represents Moers' second chance to complete her mission as a charity runner after the tragic events surrounding the bombings in Boston halted her efforts last year. Moers started long-distance running after her father was left with severe brain damage following a motorcycle accident nearly five years ago.
"We are so proud to sponsor and support Karen every step of the way as she prepares to race again and raise awareness about the benefits of massage therapy," said CG Funk, vice president of industry relations and product development for Massage Envy Spa. "Her commitment to training is also reflected in her dedication to her career where she has made a significant difference in the lives of her clients at the Massage Envy Spa in Jacksonville. We're happy to have someone like Karen as part of our team."
Through April 1, donations in support of Moers' marathon fundraiser can be made by visiting http://www.crowdrise.com/mtf2014bostonmarathon/fundraiser/karenmoers. All proceeds raised by Moer will go towards the Massage Therapy Foundation to help fund their efforts in supporting massage therapy scientific research, education and community service.
"It's truly an honor to have been selected to represent Massage Envy Spa at the Boston Marathon while raising funds for the Massage Therapy Foundation," said Moers. "Becoming a massage therapist has been a very rewarding experience for me and I look forward to helping raise awareness and funds for continued massage research."
