SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. and WASHINGTON, Dec. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In announcing the company's six-point plan to address client and therapist safety, Massage Envy CEO Joe Magnacca today underscored the important role that RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) will play in assessing the company's policies and programs.
"To make meaningful change in this industry, we have to do it thoughtfully and we cannot do it alone. Thankfully, there are many others, like RAINN, that feel like we do and are eager to help," Magnacca said. "There is no better organization than RAINN to help us achieve our goal of taking good care of people who put their trust in the Massage Envy brand."
"RAINN has a demonstrated history of helping organizations examine their sexual violence policies and improve their education and response practices," said Kati Lake, vice president of consulting services at RAINN. "We look forward to working with Massage Envy to identify improvements that will promote safe and healthy communities."
Experts from RAINN will perform an end-to-end review of Massage Envy policies and procedures — including awareness and outreach, education and training, hiring, screening, reporting and investigation. They'll recommend changes and partner with Massage Envy to build implementation plans. And RAINN will be represented on the new Massage Envy Safety Advisory Council. This group will advise Massage Envy on implementing strong safety and support standards.
RAINN will also provide response services, including victim support and access to free, confidential resources through the National Sexual Assault Hotline.
"We've seen that no matter how strong our policies are, there's always more we can do," Magnacca said. "That's what led us to develop our Commitment to Safety plan and to enlist the support of RAINN as an advisor and partner. We are confident that we have an approach that will sustain the trust and confidence of members, guests and therapists."
"We truly wish we could stop this kind of behavior from happening to anyone, anywhere in this industry. We'll never stop listening, we'll never stop learning, and we'll never waiver in our heartfelt commitment to keep people safe," Magnacca said.
