Massachusetts Court Reporter Nancy Varallo Is Elected as Vice President of the National Court Reporters Association
VIENNA, Va., Aug. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Members of the National Court Reporters Association have elected Nancy Varallo as the organization's Vice President. NCRA is a 19,000-member association representing court reporters and providers of captioning and realtime transcription services for the legal, broadcasting, business, government, and educational communities throughout the United States (www.ncraonline.org). Ms. Varallo is owner of Court Reporting Management Services, LLC, which offers business and office management services to court reporters and court reporting firms. She also is owner of All New England Reporting Service, LLC, a non-traditional court reporting agency. Both firms were opened in 2001 and are based in Worcester, Mass.
Ms. Varallo comes to the position of vice president with a wealth of experience from the profession. She previously has operated as a CART provider and a court reporting instructor and still works closely with court reporting students to assist them with their transition to the profession. In addition to holding the Fellow of the Academy of Professional Reporting (FAPR) distinction, she is a Registered Diplomate Reporter (RDR) and Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR). Realtime and CART reporting allow stenographic court reporters to filter their traditional shorthand through a translation program to appear almost instantaneously on a video screen or monitor, which allows those who are deaf or hard of hearing to participate equally in such activities as legal proceedings, classroom lectures, and television broadcasts. Indeed, stenographic court reporters serve as the backbone of the live-broadcast captioning, a specialty that has drawn particular interest in the past year after President Obama signed the Communications and Television Accessibility Act.
Ms. Varallo comes from a family with a rich history in court reporting and has been a member of the Massachusetts Court Reporters Association since 1979.
