Dozens of nurses to join community members in demonstration against firing of housekeepers
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The "Hyatt 100" and dozens of nurses from across the region will join community members at a growing rally in front of the Hyatt Regency Cambridge on Thursday, July 21. Part of a nationwide protest against the giant hotel corporation, the large demonstration highlights the two-year struggle of the 100 housekeepers whose firings from the three Boston area Hyatt hotels sparked an ongoing national protest and a boycott of the Boston hotels.

In a major show of support for the "Hyatt 100," nurses from hospitals throughout metropolitan Boston will join the protest against the hotel chain. Thursday's rally, which coincides with demonstrations in nine cities across the country, is part of the national outcry against the Hyatt corporation.
The "Hyatt 100" were forced to unknowingly train their own replacements and were then dismissed without warning. The hotel chain refuses to reinstate the fired housekeepers despite climbing profits. Hyatt is the only major national hotel chain in Boston that outsources its housekeeping. The nurses, members of the Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United, are supporting this effort because what happened to these dedicated workers could happen to any employee. And to allow this behavior to go unopposed allows all employers to join the race to the bottom in the treatment of working people.
The MNA/NNU nurses are committed, not only to healing our patients, but to healing our nation by combating corporate greed and abuse wherever it takes place.
