Mass Demonstration to Declare: Netanyahu Doesn't Speak on Behalf of World Jewry
NEW YORK, March 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Coinciding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the US and speech before Congress, pretending to be an "emissary of… the entire Jewish people," the Central Rabbinical Congress of the USA and Canada scheduled a Mass Demonstration to declare that this is incorrect: Netanyahu doesn't speak on behalf of world Jewry.
In a not dissimilar way, Jews in France and Denmark rejected Netanyahu's advice that for their safety they have to leave their homeland. These messages hurt the international Jewish community. We support those communities' responses and demand that Netanyahu and his government should stay out of the affairs of the international Jewish communities. As loyal citizens of their countries of residence, they rely on their governments to increase the security for their Jewish communities, and World Jewry is grateful for that.
"It's appalling that Israeli officials try to establish themselves as the representatives of Jewish people worldwide," said Rabbi Isaac Greenfeld. "Jews are loyal citizens wherever they live, and are represented by their respective government, and no foreign authority can claim to speak on their behalf."
