Maryland woman wins the HGTV Smart Home Giveaway 2016
Theresa Smith's name was drawn from nearly 83 million entries in annual sweepstakes for a new tech-savvy home in the heart of the South's tech triangle
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., July 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- When Theresa Smith of Glenwood, Maryland, arrived at her sister's house at the end of June, she thought the crowd of family was there to celebrate her sister's birthday. She was floored when HGTV® Smart Home 2016 designer Tiffany Brooks and an HGTV production crew showed up to tell her that she'd won the stunning home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The grand prize package, valued at more than $1.2 million, includes the home, plus all its furnishings, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC and $100,000 provided by national mortgage lender Quicken Loans®.
"I know I did a happy dance," she said. "It's the biggest surprise I've ever experienced!"
Constructed by locally owned builder, Homes by Dickerson, the traditional craftsman home is approximately 3,300-square-feet, with four bedrooms and five bathrooms, cleverly constructed with tech gadgets and smart solutions to enhance entertaining and everyday living.
The mother of five says she toured every space in the house online during the sweepstakes and picked her favorites: the master bedroom and master bath, the kitchen and the screened-in porch. Smith and her family will tour the home in person along with Brooks later this month.
The home features three levels that provide plenty of room to either spread out or gather for family fun. The main level features a master bedroom suite, open kitchen, dining room, living room and screened porch. Downstairs, the home includes an additional bedroom suite as well as a media room and exercise room. Completing the layout, the upper level houses a home office and two additional bedrooms.
Smith says her two daughters, who still live at home, have already picked out their rooms, but for now, she is just enjoying being the winner and sharing the excitement with her whole family. "I'm in a state of complete and total gratitude," she said. "This is the best thing that's ever happened to me, other than having my kids."
Viewers can watch Smith's reaction to the surprise ambush, and see her tour the home for the first time, by tuning in to the HGTV Smart Home 2016 Giveaway Special, airing August 12 at 1 p.m. ET on HGTV.
The fully furnished HGTV Smart Home 2016 is Energy Star 3 certified and Bronze-level Green certified and features products provided by national advertising partners including Bassett Furniture, Mercedes-Benz USA, Quicken Loans, Bush Brothers & Company, Daikin, LiftMaster, Farmers Insurance®, Gorilla Glue, HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams, SimpliSafe, Sleep Number, ICON Health & Fitness, VELUX, and Simonton Windows & Doors.
