"We have a very low, 6-percent turnover rate for the practice, including the surgery centers, well below what other practices deal with across the country. We're very proud to provide a pleasant and friendly work environment for our employees and benefits that are competitive within our industry."
Benefits for Chesapeake Urology employees include medical, prescription, dental and vision plans; company-paid life insurance; voluntary employee and dependent life insurance; flexible spending account; travel assist and will preparation programs; wellness program/gym membership program; retirement plan including employer profit sharing contribution; and a tuition reimbursement program.
The Summit Ambulatory Surgery Centers opened its first site in 1992 at Union Memorial Hospital. Annually, 36,000 cases are performed at the 14 locations throughout Maryland. Procedures are utilized by Chesapeake Urology's 52 physicians, including urologists, radiation oncologists and a uropathologist.
Centers staff members provided the nomination for the recognition, citing benefits above and beyond those normally provided by medical practices. Some of the additional perks include: milestone anniversary rewards, annual bonus program, ongoing training and development, and breakfast celebrations for exceeding patient expectations. In addition, employees who pitch ideas which are integrated into operations receive rewards. Employees also have the opportunity to share input directly with the CEO during monthly luncheons. Employees may also help each other through a paid-time off donation program which allows staff members to give their Paid Time Off (PTO) days to other employees needing additional time off for catastrophic events such as major surgery.
"Our organization's theme is 'Our People Make Us the Best,' and we feel that employee satisfaction is an important aspect of our operations," adds Lerner. "We make it a priority to ensure our staff members give their best to our patients and the organization and if they are satisfied, that shows on a daily basis."
