Maryland Skilled Nursing Facility Staff to Receive Wound Care Training and Certification
PLAINFIELD, Ill., Feb. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wound Care Education Institute® (WCEI), a leading wound care and ostomy education provider, is partnering for a second time with The Health Facilities Association of Maryland (HFAM) and the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy® (NAWCO) to offer wound care training and Wound Care Certification (WCC®) to eligible clinicians on Maryland's Eastern Shore. WCEI first partnered with HFAM and the Maryland Hospital Association in 2010, and trained 143 clinicians from skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, home health agencies and rehabilitation facilities. The 2014 course and exam will be subsidized by a grant awarded to HFAM by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Office of Health Care Quality. Although the focus is on skilled nursing center staff, clinicians working in other healthcare centers will also have the opportunity to attend.
WCEI's acclaimed Skin and Wound Management course will be available at a reduced rate with NAWCO's WCC certification exam to eligible clinicians including RNs, LPNs, NPs, PAs, PTs, PTAs, OTs and physicians. The training provides comprehensive coverage of wound care including such topics as the physiology of skin and underlying tissues; wound prevention, types, assessment and healing; nutritional impacts and adjunctive therapies. The one-week training will be held May 19 to May 23 at Harbourtowne Conference Center in St. Michaels, with the WCC certification exam offered on the last day.
