Maryann Chatfield is recognized by Continental Who's Who
CENTEREACH, N.Y., July 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Maryann Chatfield is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in the field of Education for Dyslexic Children.
Chatfield serves in her own tutoring practice, Maryann Chatfield, LLC, as a Dyslexia Specialist. She holds a number of certifications making her highly qualified in her role, including: Elementary Education, K-6, from Western Connecticut State University; Orton-Gillingham Training and Fellowship; and various language training seminars in stages of reading development, metacognition/reading comprehension, overview of WISC IV, brain memory, strategies for multi-sensory comprehension instruction.
Prior to working in her own practice, Chatfield worked in The Kildonian School in Amenia, N.Y., from 2004 to 2013. She "tutored students with language-based learning disorders and dyslexia," "analyzed neuropsychological reports and assessments," "taught all subject in grades two through six using differentiated instruction and multi-sensory techniques" and "integrated technology into the curriculum with the use of iPads," her website states.
Currently, Chatfield also utilizes her services and expertise at the Niemanville summer camp – where she "tutors students on a one-on-one basis using the Orton-Gillingham approach" – and the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, where she is a member of the Information and Outreach Committee and serves as Co-Editor of the Academy Newsletter. She also currently serves as a Consultant for Reading for the Babylon, N.Y. school district. She is also the author of The Ultimate Guide to Teaching Phonetic Concepts to Dyslexic Individuals and Struggling Readers.
Chatfield earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from York College in Jamaica, N.Y., graduating Cum Laude in 1980. She then went on to complete a Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., in 2009.
Additionally, Chatfield was a featured speaker at the New York Branch of the International Dyslexia Association Conference in both 2007 and 2008. She spoke on Orton-Gillingham Fun & Games as well as multi-sensory teaching, linking the visual, auditory and kinesthetic-tactile neuronal pathways. She akso recently wrote book to assist newly trained teachers, entitled: 'The Ultimate Guide to Teaching Phonetic Concepts to Dyslexic Individuals and Struggling Readers.'
When not working, Chatfield enjoys going to the beach, photography and travel – particularly to Paris. She names Dawn Nieman as her professional mentor, and dedicates this recognition to her sister, Madelyn Haussner and her family.
