Martin Schneider Joins Basho Technologies as Vice President of Marketing
Addition to Basho executive team follows company's emergence as the enterprise choice for managing distributed data networks
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Basho Technologies, the world's only data storage platform built for the cloud, today announced that Martin Schneider has joined the company as vice president of marketing. The move comes as market adoption of Riak among large and small enterprise customers begins to accelerate, leading Basho to expand its executive leadership in preparation for explosive growth.
"Martin's arrival signals a new and exciting phase for Basho. For the past three years we have deliberately focused every ounce of resource on building the very best technology possible with the best distributed systems architects and engineers in the world," said Earl Galleher, Chairman and CEO of Basho Technologies, Inc. "It's now time to aggressively pursue market share and to quickly become known as the market leader in our space. Martin is the perfect executive to lead this effort. He is smart, competitive, passionate, with deep experience in effectively positioning technology companies in their markets. We are fortunate Martin has chosen to join Basho."
Martin joins Basho from SugarCRM, where he held various executive-level marketing positions. In addition, Martin was the creator and author of the CRM Outsiders blog and social media properties, an award-winning thought leadership destination focused on social media, cloud computing, mobile technologies and their effect on modern businesses. Prior to SugarCRM, Martin managed the application software practice for the 451 Group, a leading software industry analysis firm in NYC.
"The rapidly accelerating adoption of cloud-based solutions coupled with an explosion of both the types and volume of data has created both a unique challenge and, with it, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I was attracted to Riak's best-in-class capabilities as well as the strong team and energetic community," said Schneider. "We are entering a major market shift, and Riak is perfectly positioned to support enterprises as they move from traditional data solutions towards modern, cloud-enabled distributed data platforms."
Founded in 2008 by former Akamai Technologies executives and senior engineers, Basho designed Riak to free corporations from the constraints of traditional, highly centralized database architectures (like those offered by Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, etc.). Enterprises like Comcast, Wikia Inc., Mozilla, AOL, and Vibrant Media use Riak not just as an alternative to traditional databases, but as the cornerstone for previously un-contemplated application architectures.
Applications built with Riak can sustain catastrophic server, data center, and network failures without outages while avoiding the complexity and expense that characterize applications built using traditional data architectures. Optimized for the world's most demanding web and cloud-based architectures, organizations building applications using Riak can scale out dynamically to handle sudden surges in load and scale back when load decreases to reduce expenses.
