In an exclusive interview, Stewart talks about life with her beloved dogs, her work in animal adoption and the launch of her new line of Martha Stewart Pets™ products. She appears on the DOG FANCY cover with her new Chow Chow puppy, Ghenghis Khan; and French Bulldogs, Francesca and Sharkey.
This special anniversary issue revisits milestones in the dog world and consults leading experts about what the future holds for dogs. It also debuts the publication of Adopted Dog, DOG FANCY's first "flip" double issue dedicated to adoption and rescue.
"Rescue is very important. I believe that there's a loving home for many of the animals in shelters and that it's important to inform people about how to find animals in need of rescue," says Stewart, who has rescued not just dogs and cats, but also two black Welsh sheep, three Pomeranian geese, and three donkeys, all of which live on her farm.
"At DOG FANCY, we are dedicated to promoting fun and loving companionship with our dogs, whether they are prizewinning purebreds or magnificent mutts," says Ernie Slone, DOG FANCY editor. "For years I have been personally committed to rescue and volunteer at a shelter every week. But to keep dogs out of shelters and make rescues successful, educating owners is vital. In her television and radio shows, magazine, website and books, and her personal life, Martha demonstrates leadership in promoting responsible pet ownership.''
DOG FANCY readers will find more than 20 pages dedicated to pet adoption and rescue topics, including:
- Adopted for Life: A Comprehensive Guide to the Adoption Process
- Fostering: What It Is and How to Do It
