Marrone Bio Innovations Selected by The Artemis Project™ as a 2012 Top 50 Water Company
Success of Zequanox® biological for invasive mussel control earns MBI distinction as top 5 early market leader
DAVIS, Calif., Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Marrone Bio Innovations, Inc. (MBI) announced today that it has been chosen for the 2012 Artemis Top 50 Water Tech Listing™, and earned the distinction as one of the five early market leaders generating revenues beyond $5 million. The selection of MBI to the list was based largely on its groundbreaking product Zequanox®, the industry's first selective and environmentally compatible solution for the control of invasive zebra and quagga mussels that aggressively impact freshwater lakes and rivers.
"Zequanox offers significant benefits over traditional treatments such as chlorine and other biocides, and we're proud to be recognized by Artemis for developing and commercializing this important product," MBI CEO Pam Marrone said. "Unlike conventional mussel control methods—namely chlorine and other biocides—Zequanox is a highly effective biological that successfully maintains downstream water quality, while improving worker safety and supporting healthy aquatic ecosystems."
MBI was selected by a jury that included experts from corporations such as Intel, Archer Daniels Midland, IBM, Ecolab and Syngenta as well as McKinsey, CH2M Hill, Carollo Engineers and Singapore's Public Utilities Board.
"The Artemis Top 50 is the water industry's benchmark for innovation that will matter. It identifies the new solutions that will meet the world's water challenges," stated Laura Shenkar, chair of the Artemis Top 50™. The Top 50 companies are some of the most promising start-ups in the emerging high tech wave in water."
