Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina Breaks Ground On Largest West-Coast Event Space
Hotel in San Diego begins expansion to create 240,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor event venues to be completed summer of 2016
SAN DIEGO, March 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Becoming more than just a sophisticated Southern California oasis, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina has broken ground on a massive meeting space expansion that will result in the largest event space on the West Coast.
Already an unparalleled meeting destination, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina offers elegant conference facilities, proximity to the San Diego Convention Center and the beauty of America's Finest City. Currently boasting 47 meeting rooms with 80,000 square feet of total event space, the Downtown San Diego hotel will be expanding to nearly 240,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event venues, scheduled for completion summer of 2016.
The San Diego meeting and wedding venue will be using its beautiful bay and downtown surroundings as inspiring backdrops during the reconstruction. In place of the current ballrooms, two stacked 36,000-square-foot ballrooms are being built to overlook the San Diego Bay, each able to accommodate up to 4,500 guests. Inspired by the natural beauty of Southern California, the design will feature sophisticated simplicity with colors that match the allure of sandy beaches and sunsets. A glass curtain wall will provide breathtaking, unobstructed views of Downtown San Diego, offering the ideal background for lavish events. Equally matched in beauty, a one-of-a-kind Swarovski crystal ceiling installation located in the pre-function space will mesmerize guests, attendees and art lovers alike. Lastly, a video wall system using the latest technology will take presentations and conferences to the next level.
For event planners looking to take celebrations outdoors, the Marina Terrace invites guests to soak up San Diego's ideal climate with 26,450 square feet of paved space overlooking the marina. Ample seating areas will create the perfect atmosphere to relax and unwind or mix and mingle while connecting guests to the beautiful outdoors.
In its newest addition, the luxury San Diego hotel will be building the Marina Walk, connecting downtown and the San Diego Bay. Along the path, visitors will enjoy views of the marina, parks and the waterfront. Finishing touches of this landscaped walkway will include bike racks, benches, public art and decorative paving, as well as wheelchair accessibility.
Whether hosting an intimate ceremony for 40 or an extravagant affair for 4,000, guests will find the San Diego wedding and event venue an ideal destination for making memories. In addition to state-of-the-art facilities, Marriott features a remarkable team of professional event planners, trained to take care of every detail and bring hosts' visions to life. Inspiring event menus are also available and feature creative cuisine and cocktail pairings, ensuring every event is both mouthwatering and magical.
