QUEENS, N.Y., Aug. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Following several waves of upgrades, improved amenities, and new store openings, MarketPlace Development is pleased to announce that the redevelopment of Terminal B's Food & Shops at LaGuardia Airport is nearing completion. MarketPlace embarked on the redevelopment upgrade last year to refresh and revitalize the Food & Shops program while the Port Authority of NY & NJ continues its planning of a new state-of-the art terminal in the near future.
Over the past year, the terminal has welcomed several specialty stores, giving passengers convenient access to quality products and dining options. New specialty stores include America!, Desigual, Duty Free Americas/ L'Occitane, Eddie Bauer, Lacoste, Lick, InMotion Entertainment, Ruby Blue and Tumi, Dining options have also expanded as the terminal introduced Bowery Bay Tavern, Piccolo Mercato, Six Blocks Bakery, Sorrentine, Villa Pizza Kitchen, and a recent remodeling of all Au Bon Pain locations.
"We're pleased to announce that our redevelopment project in Terminal B is coming to fruition," says Paul McGinn, MarketPlace Development president. "The upgrades we've made in our Food & Shops program will offer passengers better options and a more comfortable experience in the aging building, as they wait for the new terminal to be built."
In addition to stores and eateries, several amenities and services were added or upgraded in order to meet the needs of the airport's passengers. The Centurion Lounge, a modern lounge created by American Express for its cardholders, opened in the terminal, and Bank of America ATMs were introduced across the terminal for convenient cash access. Escalators and HVAC systems were also upgraded and, later this year, both food courts will be refurbished and offer free charging capability to keep passengers connected.
"The upgrades to the Food and Shops Program at Terminal B invigorates the retail atmosphere by providing our passengers with access to superior shops and dining options," said Lysa Scully, LaGuardia Airport General Manager. "While the Port Authority continues to move forward with modernizing LaGuardia Airport, such improvements also foster economic growth and spur job creation within the airport."
The Food & Shops plans to host a Grand Opening celebration to celebrate these new improvements, from August 17 – 31st. Passengers will be treated to free food tastings, store discounts, live music and special events. A summer fashion show will be held on August 21st to showcase the new retail options, and a multi-store ribbon cutting event will be held on August 27th to celebrate the new store openings. A Twitter contest featuring merchandise giveaways is also planned.
