Market Research Reveals Opinions about Seniors and Advertising
GlynnDevins Surveyed 400 Seniors Over the Age of 70
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Aug. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The majority of older adults from across the country believe the portrayal of their generation in advertising is not realistic. In fact, 60% of those adults surveyed stated seniors featured in advertising are portrayed as stereotypes.
Statistics from the survey conducted by GlynnDevins are featured on the Overland Park-based marketing communications agency's blog, Insights. Over the next three weeks, the series of blog posts will feature results regarding Seniors' Portrayal in Advertising, Seniors' Online Research of Products and Services, and What Advertising Do Older Adults Like Best?
"Our experience and expertise is in the field of senior living and targeting older adults," said Sue McClure, GlynnDevins executive vice president and general manager. "This research is not only valuable for our agency as we work with clients, but generally for all in advertising, simply because of the growth in the aging population."
According to the Administration on Aging, there are over 43 million people over the age of 65 in the United States. That figure is up significantly from just 10 years ago and will continue to increase as the Baby Boomers surge into that age category.
"Marketers are constantly challenged with portraying their target audience in ways that resonate with the audience," noted McClure. "This research provides a snapshot that will give pause for thought when developing campaigns, not only for senior living, but all categories that are seeking older adults to take some sort of consumer action."
