Market Leaders Solve Power Challenges through Intelligent Energy Storage Designed for Use with Electric Vehicle Charging
Green Charge Networks and NRG eVgo Form Partnership to Bring Power Efficiency to More Drivers
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Charge Networks and NRG eVgo today announced a strategic partnership to deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging stations with integrated energy storage that broadens options for EV drivers and EV charging hosts. The innovative partnership empowers the two companies to collaborate and combine Green Charge's GreenStation™ energy storage with eVgo DC fast charging installations to form a holistic solution that enables businesses, universities, and cities to expand EV charging options while reducing electricity bills through intelligent energy storage.
To refuel an electric vehicle quickly, high-powered chargers are a key value for EV drivers. Power availability, power costs, and capital expenses are frequently barriers to property owners seeking to deploy this technology. Combining intelligent energy storage and eVgo's charging infrastructure offers facility managers the means to significantly reduce costs while attracting consumers for a seamless charging experience.
"We've worked with schools, colleges, cities, and Fortune 500 clients like 7-Eleven to help them realize their sustainability goals through energy storage," said Vic Shao, CEO at Green Charge Networks. "As interest in electric vehicles rises, we're thrilled to meet the demand in an economic and sustainable approach through our partnership with NRG eVgo."
eVgo is building a network of more than 200 Freedom Station fast-charging sites as well as the infrastructure to support Level 2 charging at multi-family residences and workplaces throughout the state of California. The eVgo network is designed to support electric vehicle drivers whenever and wherever they choose to charge - at home, at work, on the road, at their apartment community or even at the airport. Through eVgo, NRG will provide access to hundreds of public charging sites across the United States. The strategic partnership between NRG eVgo and Green Charge is a big step for paving the way for green personal transportation. The partnership will further contribute to achieving California's Zero Emissions Vehicle goal of 1.5 million plug-in vehicles on the road by 2025, as well as its AB2514 energy storage mandate of deploying 1.3GW of energy storage capacity by 2020.
"NRG eVgo makes it easy for property owners to provide EV charging and attract consumers," said Terry O'Day, Vice President NRG eVgo. "Partnering with Green Charge Networks will bring our service to more sites more quickly and expand our offering for both drivers and hosts."
Green Charge and NRG eVgo have formed a partnership to install more than 10 EV charging stations with intelligent energy storage in California by end of 2014. Five of those stations are already in operation.
