Market Leader in Used Network Hardware Nominated for Prestigious German Green IT Award
AMSTERDAM, November 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
DURABILIT BV (http://www.durabilit.eu), market leader in refurbished hardware based in the Netherlands, has been nominated for the prestigious German 'Green IT Best Practice Award 2011'.
Green IT-BB is a public-private partnership between the German government and leading German companies, which has the aim of promoting Green IT and highlighting best practices in Green IT so that other companies and users can adopt these.
DURABILIT has been nominated in the category "Visionary Total Concepts in Systems and Processes" for its Green IT solutions and Greener Network Calculator, which DURABILIT developed together with Prof. Dr. Ir. Harold Krikke of the Open University in the Netherlands. DURABILIT's competitors for the prize are companies like Audi, Daimler and Deutsche Bank. The DURABILIT Greener Network Calculator enables customers to determine the total CO2 reduction that can be achieved when re-using network equipment instead of buying new hardware. Possible reductions in CO2 emissions range from 40-90%. Apart from a reduction in CO2 emissions, the use of refurbished network hardware also helps to dramatically reduce costs (TCO) by 20-90%, all this while being of the same quality as new equipment.
"The fact that we have been nominated for such a prestigious award is a sign that our research, knowledge and the concept of reducing CO2 emissions by re-use of network equipment is seen as relevant by the industry. " says Korfmacher. DURABILIT has been promoting the implementation of Green IT solutions, DURABILIT IT Asset Management Software and use of refurbished routers and switches since it was founded in 2005. Its customer base ranges from small and medium sized companies to large multinational corporations. It also advises government agencies on Green IT and the most efficient use of IT Assets and Resources.
The Green IT-BB Best Practice Award is organized under the dual patronage of Dr. Philipp Rösler, Bundesminister für Wirtschaft und Technologie, and Cornelia Rogall-Grothe, responsible for the IT-sector of the German Government. DURABILIT has been nominated by a jury that consist of senior industry representatives such as CIO of the German Space Agency (Deutsches Zentrum fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt), CIO of the German Ministery for the Environment, CIO of Rehau AG, CIO of Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH and Editor in Chief of the weekly Computerwoche.
