Philip Morris International Inc. Analyst Notes
On May 14, 2014, Philip Morris International Inc. (PMI) issued a press release appreciating the release of the Human Rights Watch report, 'Tobacco's Hidden Children,' that demonstrates child labor and other labor abuses on tobacco farms in Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee. Commenting on the release of the report, PMI's CEO André Calantzopoulos said, "This report uncovers serious child labor abuses that should not occur on any farm, anywhere. Human Rights Watch acknowledges the work PMI has done to address these issues through our Agricultural Labor Practices global program to reach nearly half a million smallholder farmers. However more work remains to be done to eliminate child and other labor abuses in tobacco growing." The report also includes certain recommendations to the U.S. government on how to deal with these issues. Molson Coors Brewing Company Analyst Notes
On May 7, 2014, Molson Coors Brewing Company (Molson Coors) released its Q1 2014 earnings. The Company reported Q1 2014 net sales of $816.0 million, down 1.5% YoY. During the quarter, the Company's net sales from Europe improved 7.7% YoY while Molson Coors International net sales improved 19.3% YoY, which was partially offset by a 12.3% YoY decline in net sales from Canada. Net income from continuing operations attributable to MCBC increased $135.9 million to $165.3 million in Q1 2014, on the back of strong underlying profit performance and an $81.2 million positive change in special and other non-core items. The Company's net income attributable to Molson Coors came in at $163.4 million or $0.88 per diluted share, compared to net income of $28.5 million or $0.16 per diluted share in Q1 2013.
