Markel Appoints Trade Credit Development Director in New York
RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Markel Corporation has appointed Arjan van de Wall as director of development, Americas, in its trade credit and political risk operation in the US.
Arjan reports to Philip Amlot who heads up the trade credit and political risk team, which is headquartered in New York.
Arjan's role is to assist with business growth across the US, Canada and Latin America, developing strategic broker relationships, targeting large customer opportunities and broadening the product range, whilst supported by Markel's strong corporate rating and broad geographic footprint across the USA.
Arjan's appointment follows that of Howard Lee in May this year. Since the establishment of the operation in July 2014, it has successfully grown the business focusing on a broad range of specialist products. Policies can now be written on an admitted basis across 40 states with tenors of up to seven years.
Arjan has over twenty-six years of experience in the trade credit industry. He held a number of senior posts at Euler Hermes Group, where latterly he was SVP and commercial director of the Euler Hermes North American operation, prior to that SVP and regional director of world agency, Americas, and spent two years as CEO of Euler Hermes Canada. Previously he held a number of senior appointments at Atradius Group in the Netherlands and, from 1996 onwards, in the USA.
Philip Amlot said: "Arjan has a wealth of experience in the trade credit industry and over 20 years working in the US marketplace, which will be a huge asset to our organisation and to the continued development of our business across North and South America."
Ewa Rose, managing director of Markel's trade credit and political risk business, added: "Arjan will be actively involved in further developing our broker and client relationships. He will help to shape our offering across the Americas and we are delighted to have someone with his outstanding reputation in the trade credit market join the team."
