A symbol of Mark Group's continued U.S. growth and investment, the training facility has opened with the support of a $192,000 grant from the Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation to provide energy efficiency training and education for weatherization technicians and crew leaders. The new Navy Yard Academy has been modelled off the Mark Group Academy, UK which opened in 2008 and recently celebrated its 1,000th graduate.
Mark Group directly employs and trains its workforce. "Education is a core pillar of our business," Hopkins communicated to a sea of Mark Group staff and crew. "Whether we're assisting a homeowner in making an informed decision to reduce their energy consumption, or internally training on installation protocol, education is the foundation to consistency, quality, and long term success."
The Mark Group Academy is expected to further strengthen the energy efficiency specialist's foothold in Philadelphia and encourage an already healthy recruitment drive. Since its launch in the U.S. in 2010, the company has hired over 40 new employees to help implement energy efficiency improvements in hundreds of residences across the region. Green job growth in the region has also recently gained national attention with the visit from President Obama and U.S. Secretary of Labor Solis.
"The opening of the Mark Group Academy is a significant step forward for us. These facilities will allow us to develop the skills and expertise of a growing local workforce in sustainable green jobs. The education that takes place here will provide a solid foundation for regional and national expansion," Hopkins concluded.
Mark Group currently provides energy efficiency analysis and improvements across the Greater Philadelphia area, with a national rollout to follow.
