PHILADELPHIA, July 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark Group, a leading global provider of professional energy efficiency improvements, announced today that La Salle University is the first college in the country to implement its new Greening Your Workforce™ program. "Greening Your Workforce™ is a cost-effective opportunity for companies and institutions like La Salle to offer a new and measurable benefit to their faculty, staff and alumni," said Mark Group's CEO Jeff Bartos. "As the first university to adopt this program, La Salle is setting an example as a leader in sustainability."
Philadelphia-area consumers paid 26.4 percent more for electricity in May than the U.S. average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. "Furthermore, more than half of the average home's energy costs are associated with heating and cooling, and with PECO's residential supply charge increasing by 6 percent on October 1, now is the time for savvy consumers to make home energy efficiency a top priority," added Bartos.
To empower homeowners to take control of their energy costs, Mark Group will arm La Salle's faculty, staff and alumni with a comprehensive home performance analysis that provides a roadmap of how to save money on their utility bills, live more comfortably, and add value to their homes. Unlike many providers, Mark Group also implements the recommended conservation measures, helping to streamline the process for homeowners.
"Mark Group's initiative is consistent with La Salle's goal of energy savings on campus and allows us to extend this goal to the wider La Salle community," states La Salle University Director of Human Resources Margurete Walsh, Ed.D. "With summer in full swing, we are encouraging our valued faculty, staff and alumni to take advantage of this significant new benefit in order to lower their utility bills and improve the overall comfort of their homes."
This fall, Mark Group will also offer the La Salle community energy efficiency educational sessions, including an overview of the basics of home performance and building science. Experts will also discuss how cost-effective improvements like air sealing and insulation can immediately reduce monthly energy bills by up to 20 percent. In addition, simple tips such as programming your thermostat to adjust during the workday, utilizing ceiling fans and running electric appliances during off-peak hours will also be shared with La Salle faculty, staff and alumni as part of this program.
