"We are very pleased to present this award to Mark A. Wallace," said Dr. Richard Lampe, president of TPS. "His contributions and service to the needs of children and to the practice of pediatrics are well-deserving of this distinguished recognition."
Wallace was selected by the TPS Awards Committee for his dedication to pediatric medicine and children in need. As a proven leader in health care, Wallace has influenced efforts at the national, state and local levels by testifying before numerous government agencies as an advocate for children's health care. Wallace also championed the effort to pass legislation in Texas establishing the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), a state-run program that provides health insurance for uninsured children of low-income families who do not have access to affordable health insurance.
"Texas Children's is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all children regardless of their condition, race, religion or their family's ability to pay," said Wallace. "It is an honor to receive this award from the Texas Pediatric Society and to be counted among my fellow honorees, all of whom have played significant roles in helping improve the quality of healthcare for children in our state and beyond."
TPS, the Texas chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, is a state professional nonprofit organization consisting of more than 2,800 pediatricians and 600 medical students working together to help all children in Texas attain their full potential for physical, emotional and social health. TPS believes that the most important resource of the state of Texas is its children and pledges its efforts to promote their health and welfare.
