Mario Batali Guest Edits Feeding America, National Geographic Your Shot Assignment
Batali Reveals Four Images That Demonstrate Hunger And Hope In America
CHICAGO, Dec. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Feeding America today announced that acclaimed chef Mario Batali has selected photos from the National Geographic The Story of Hunger and Hope Your Shot assignment in partnership with Feeding America. Some of Batali's selected photos will appear the book Feeding America: Stories of Hunger and Hope, which is scheduled to be published October 2015.
As guest editor of the Your Shot assignment, Batali chose four images that portray hunger in America or unique ways to help solve it. The photos include For the Price of a Packet of Seeds by Linda Bohrer; Gratitude and Gravy for all by Deja Cross; Farm Gleaning by Ethan Welty; and A Helping Hand by Michelle Walker. These photos will appear alongside images from National Geographic photographers in a forthcoming book, which is being created as a persuasive tool for inspiring people to support hunger-relief efforts.
Batali participated in the assignment to inspire people to care about the issue of hunger in America. Batali is a member of the Feeding America Entertainment Council and a longtime anti-hunger advocate. Feeding America is the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization, providing food to more than 46 million Americans each year.
This year, National Geographic magazine's editorial narrative is "The Future of Food." In tandem, the Your Shot assignment "The Story of Hunger and Hope" project was designed to capture photographs of what hunger looks like in communities around the country and convey the hope that exists when people work together to solve the problem.
Your Shot is National Geographic's online community of nearly 500,000 photographers designed to tell stories through compelling photography. The Story of Hunger and Hope assignment garnered more than 5,000 photo submissions from photographers around the world.
This project was funded by The Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
