March of Dimes Helps Nurses Care for Mothers and Babies
New Continuing Nursing Education Modules Now Available
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For nurses seeking up-to-date and cost-effective continuing education on the care of mothers and babies, the March of Dimes is now offering three new publications (modules). They are:
- Diabetes in Pregnancy, 4th Edition
- Genetic Issues for Perinatal Nurses, 3rd Edition
- Preterm Infants: Transition to Home and Follow-up
Diabetes in Pregnancy, 4th Edition, provides nurses with information to guide comprehensive nursing care and education of women with pregestational and gestational diabetes during the perinatal period. Author Jo M. Kendrick, MSN, RNC, CDE, covers nursing assessment; interventions and strategies for medical nutrition therapy, insulin therapy, use of oral antidiabetes medications and exercise; and evaluation and impact of vascular disease in pregnancy.
Genetic Issues for Perinatal Nurses, 3rd Edition, written by Judith A. Lewis, Ph.D., RN, WHNP-BC, FAAN, provides perinatal nurses with basic knowledge and information about genetics and genomics to integrate into nursing practice. According to the American Nurses Association (ANA) and International Society of Genetics (ISONG), "the public will increasingly expect that the registered nurse will use genetic and genomic information and technology when providing care" (ANA & ISONG, 2007, page 7). This new module will help nurses meet that expectation.
Preterm Infants: Transition to Home and Follow-up, written by Susan Bakewell-Sachs, Ph.D., RN, PNP-BC and Susan Blackburn, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, emphasizes incorporating family-centered care principles into nursing practice to enhance parental confidence and competence in caring for a preterm infant at discharge. Additional topics covered include infants discharged on medications, infants requiring short-term technological support (such as cardiorespiratory monitors and oxygen) and late preterm infants. March of Dimes nursing modules help perinatal nurses integrate the latest scientific and clinical advances into the care of mothers and babies. Nursing modules are written for nurses, by nurses, and are a cost-effective way to earn continuing nursing education credits. Modules may be purchased for $30.00 by calling the March of Dimes Fulfillment Center toll free at 1-800-367-6630.
The March of Dimes Foundation is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New York State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
