MAPIC Launches the 'Retail In The City' Summit
17 - 19 November 2010 - Palais des Festivals, Cannes
PARIS, Nov. 2, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- For its 16th edition, MAPIC is launching the "Retail in the City" Summit, offering a unique opportunity for political leaders and city representatives to share ideas with partners from the private sector on the key theme of developing sustainable urban retail. This first Summit will be held at the Hotel Majestic on 18th November, 2010.
"More than ever, creating and regenerating sustainable urban retail in city centres and outlying areas is important for local and national authorities around the world. This 'Retail in the City' Summit is intended to encourage cooperation between municipalities and private partners by offering a format for sharing best practices and ideas. It will address key themes such as financing, local appeal, the right retail mix, combining the city centre with the outskirts, the environment, and social cohesion. Retailers and city planning people will have to face these challenges together," says Nathalie Depetro, Director of MAPIC.
Sharon Fernandez-Cavada King, Director of ERV Consulting, and one of the Summit's MCs, talks about her participation: "Retail allows people to play a definite role in cities' economies. We have recent examples on how retail can drive the renovation of a city, Liverpool comes quickly to everybody's mind. I am very happy to have the chance of participating in the organisation of the 'Retail in the City' Summit. Sustainable retail is an important part of any city's life, and working with experts in different fields and countries is an excellent chance to gain knowledge that we can put to work in our own cities."
Held behind closed doors, the debate will feature seven roundtables focusing on the following questions:
- infrastructure financing
- the commercial mix and territory attractiveness
- retail and laws to protect the environment
- the social sustainability
- the role of retail in urban regeneration
- regulatory constraints: impediment to trade development in the cities
- the city as a shopping destination
"These topics cover the major concerns of urban players. Each table will have senior experts whose findings will then move the debate forward at the international level," explains the other MC, Bertrand Boulle, CEO, Mall & Market.
At the end of this high-level meeting, Sharon Fernandez-Cavada King and Bertrand Boulle will take questions from journalists interested in the event's results. The briefing will be held from 3.30 to 4 pm on the 18th of November in the Press Agora.
