MAPIC Awards 2011: Competition Is Now Open
16-18 November 2011 - Palais des Festivals, Cannes
PARIS, June 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- MAPIC 2011 today announces the launch of the 16th MAPIC Awards. Registration for the competition is open to international retail real estate professionals.
Winner in the Best New Retail Concept at MAPIC 2010, LEGO Company comments: "Winning the MAPIC Awards in 2010 was a great achievement for LEGO Company. It meant that I had to field a lot of calls from landlords and brokers who were interested in getting us into their properties. There were other benefits in terms of industry recognition and opportunities to develop our network not only for real estate, but also in terms of construction and design. All in all it was a beneficial award for us to win."
This year brings an innovation in the organization of the MAPIC Awards: For the first time, MAPIC delegates' votes will carry the same weight as those of the international jury.
"The MAPIC Awards recognize the excellence, innovation and creativity of current design projects while offering them media visibility on the international stage. We decided to involve the delegates' own expertise in retail real estate when selecting the winners to ensure that the MAPIC Awards truly reflect major industry trends," said Nathalie Depetro, Director of MAPIC.
MAPIC Awards 2011 entrants will compete in four separate categories:
- Best New Retail Concept
- Best Retail Expansion
- Best Retailer in City Centre
- Best Retail Development
Chaired by John Strachan, Global Head of Retail, Cushman & Wakefield LLP (UK), the jury will meet at the end of September to select three projects in each category. They also vote for a Personality of the Year award and a Special Jury Prize for a project that will not include the delegates' votes. The jury is composed of well-known personalities from the retail real estate sector and the trade media:
- Alain Boutigny, Editor-in-Chief, Sites Commerciaux (France)
- Pierre Francis, Executive Director, AMCV – TOCEMA (Belgium)
- Yann Guen, Vice-President, Mayland Real Estate (Poland)
- Frederic Laloum, Directeur General Adjoint/Membre du Directoire, Altarea (France)
- Klaus Striebich, Managing Director Leasing, ECE Projektmanagement (Germany)
- Stefano Stroppiana, Retail Real Estate Developer, Stefano Stroppiana (Italy)
- Andrew Watson, International Director and Head of Core Funds Continental Europe, LaSalle Investment Management (France)
The Awards Ceremony will take place in the Palais des Festivals de Cannes at 6.30 pm on Thursday, November 17.
