NEW YORK, Jan. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- With winter comes harsh winds, frigid temperatures, steamy showers and rising thermostats. These conditions contribute to the inevitable battle with dry skin that lasts all winter long – it's no wonder that roughly two-thirds of Americans (65 percent) believe January is one of the months when their skin is at its worst, according to recently released results from a CeraVe® survey, conducted online by Harris Poll among more than 2,000 U.S. adults. That's why CeraVe®, the therapeutic skincare authority is proud to acknowledge today, January 8th, as Winter Skin Relief Day, a day focused on raising awareness for the skin's special needs in winter.
The CeraVe® Winter Skin Relief Day survey found that 42 percent of Americans say having dry skin in the winter is one of the things they dislike most– with fewer citing other annoyances like going to the DMV (37 percent) and filing taxes (32 percent). While more Americans wish there was a quick fix for dry skin during the winter than shoveling snow (45 percent vs. 35 percent), the survey revealed that many Americans (25 percent) are neglecting a skincare routine, which could bring them the fix they're seeking. According to the survey, a staggering 15 percent of Americans admitted they never moisturize their skin at all. Moreover, 30 percent of Americans moisturize their skin less than once a week or not at all and only 34 percent add moisturizer to their skincare routine in the wintertime.
"A proper skincare routine should be sustained year-round, but it becomes even more important in the winter months when cold, dry temperatures dehydrate the skin," said Dr. Michelle Henry, board-certified dermatologist. "It's important that in addition to a regular routine, consumers are moisturizing more often and adding stronger healing products like CeraVe® Healing Ointment into their routine throughout winter to rehydrate the dry skin that comes with the colder months."
Although achieving healthy skin is very attainable, it can still be a struggle for some and many Americans admitted they'd be willing to make much bigger tradeoffs for the promise of healthy skin. In fact, the survey revealed that 57 percent of Americans feel healthy skin is more important than staying up-to-date on social media and nearly a quarter of Americans (23 percent) would be willing to move to another climate if it promised healthier skin. Additionally, 18 percent would be willing to give up their favorite food for the duration of winter if it meant not having dry skin for the season, all indicating how much Americans desire relief from their winter skin woes and fortunately for them, CeraVe® makes the relief attainable without the tradeoff.
"We know people want healthy skin, but aren't always sure how to get it, especially in the month when skin is at its worst," said Derrick Booker, Head of U.S. Marketing. "CeraVe® has a deep scientific understanding of the skin and is committed to helping consumers understand the skin's needs and giving them products to meet those needs so their skin can look and feel good even in the winter."
This Winter Skin Relief Day, CeraVe® is here to make sure consumers' skin gets the relief it needs and they learn how to keep that troublesome dry skin at bay.
