Manuel Perez Named General Manager of DYMO/Mimio
Company co-founder to take helm of leading interactive teaching technologies provider
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Manuel (Manny) Perez has been named the general manager of DYMO/Mimio, a leading provider of intuitive, interactive teaching technologies that empower educators to simply teach. In his new role, Perez will also oversee operations of Headsprout, the innovative provider of adaptive instructional content acquired by DYMO/Mimio in March 2011.
A co-founder of DYMO/Mimio, Perez's 14 years of experience leading not only the product vision for DYMO/Mimio, but also serving as a key member of the brand's leadership team, provide a definitive advantage for continuing to advance the education technology provider's position in the global marketplace.
"Manny's history with DYMO/Mimio literally begins at day one as a company founder and as someone who spearheaded development of the first Mimio product," said David Klatt, president, Labeling Technology & Integrated Solutions global business unit at Newell Rubbermaid. "In the last 14 years, he has continued to contribute as a leader and an innovator, earning tremendous respect from his colleagues and peers, and helping to establish the company as a respected leader in the industry. This invaluable background makes him the perfect candidate to spur the DYMO/Mimio brand on to reaching its fullest potential yet on a global basis."
Perez founded Virtual Ink in 1997, alongside co-founders Yonald Chery, William Moyne, Andrew Kelley and Mathew Verminski. The company eventually became mimio, which was acquired by Newell Rubbermaid in 2006 and rebranded DYMO/Mimio in 2010.
Perez's strong computer science background has been an asset to DYMO/Mimio's state-of-the-art products and software, which are designed to make it easy for teachers to carry out their most important role: to simply teach. His product designs and innovations have earned numerous industry and design awards, including the world-renowned red dot Product Design Award in 2011 for the MimioClassroom product suite.
Prior to assuming the role of general manager, Perez most recently served as director of research and development for DYMO/Mimio, managing a group of highly talented software developers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, instructional designers and project managers.
"It's been an amazing journey to watch DYMO/Mimio grow from its roots as a small startup at MIT to the global interactive teaching technology provider it is today," said Perez. "As general manager, I'm looking forward to continuing our dedication to developing innovative products that improve the educational instructional experience in the U.S. and abroad."
Perez holds a Master of Engineering degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.
