Chiquita Brooks-LaSure Brings Extensive Health Policy Experience to National Healthcare Team
WASHINGTON, Jan. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, today announced that Chiquita Brooks-LaSure has joined the Washington, D.C., office as a managing director with Manatt Health Solutions, the firm's interdisciplinary policy and business advisory division. Most recently serving as an independent consultant, Brooks-LaSure is a former deputy center director and deputy director for policy and regulation at the Centers for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where she led policy development.
With more than 15 years of experience in health policy, Brooks-LaSure has played an important role in health reform. While at CCIIO, and earlier at the Department of Health and Human Services as director of coverage policy, Brooks-LaSure executed coverage and insurance reform provisions during the Affordable Care Act's implementation. Prior to the act's implementation, she helped shepherd House healthcare reform bill development and negotiated with the Senate and the Obama administration on the ACA while serving on the Democratic professional staff for the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee.
"Chiquita's deep understanding of health policy implications and her thoughtful guidance have been trusted by policymakers and health agency leaders, assisting them in the decisions that would come to shape health reform," said William S. Bernstein, chair of the firm's Healthcare division. "Few people are as familiar with the policies underlying today's health regulations as Chiquita, and her added implementation experience will be an immediate asset to the considerable number of clients affected by the Affordable Care Act."
At Manatt, she will provide policy analysis and advice to the full gamut of healthcare stakeholders across both the private and public sectors, focusing particularly on the policy areas relating to marketplaces, insurance reforms, employer coverage, Medicare Advantage and Part D.
"Manatt is well-known for its high-level engagements and cutting-edge work in the healthcare sector," said Brooks-LaSure. "What sets the firm apart from the others — and what drew me to it most — is its multifaceted and integrated approach to serving its healthcare clients, pooling its talent to offer superior business, legal and regulatory guidance through multiple channels. I'm excited to work with this elite group."
Brooks-LaSure earned her A.B. in politics from Princeton University and her master's in public policy from Georgetown University.
