Manama Takes "A Step in the Right Direction," UNGA President Says
MANAMA, Bahrain, Jan. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Current U.N. General Assembly President Nassir Abdulaziz al-Nasser commended Bahrain's steps toward national unity after meeting with Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on Wednesday.
While urging the country to continue following through with the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry's recommendations, Nasser noted positive efforts from the government, stating that Manama's political reforms are "a step in the right direction."
The government, in a large-scale effort aimed at unifying Bahrain, recently passed constitutional reforms that include giving the elected chamber of parliament power to reject the government and its programs.
