NEW YORK, Nov. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Manal S. Corwin has been named principal-in-charge of the Washington National Tax (WNT) practice of KPMG LLP, the audit, tax and advisory firm, after serving five-plus years as national leader of the firm's International Tax practice and principal-in-charge of international tax policy. She is based in Washington, D.C., and succeeds Joe Pari, who has decided to return to private law practice.
"Manal brings to this position a unique combination of tax technical knowledge from both the public and private sectors, impressive professional achievements, and client service success for some of our firm's largest and most prestigious clients," said Jeffrey C. LeSage, Americas Vice Chairman—Tax at KPMG. "Her leadership and insight will be critical for our clients as they look to our WNT practice for guidance in complying with ever-changing tax regulations in the U.S. and worldwide."
As head of WNT, Corwin will lead a team of experienced tax professionals, serve as KPMG's ultimate tax technical resource and be involved in client service. She will also continue in her role leading KPMG International's Global Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) network.
A highly respected tax professional, Corwin rejoined KPMG in April 2013 following completion of her tenure as deputy assistant secretary of tax policy for international tax affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. While at Treasury, she also served as international tax counsel in the Office of Tax Policy and was a U.S. delegate and vice chair to the OECD's committee on fiscal affairs, with active involvement in the early stages of its BEPS initiative.
Prior to serving in the U.S. Treasury, Corwin was a principal in the WNT practice at KPMG from 2001 to 2009, where she advised multinational corporations on international aspects of their operations and transactions in the United States and represented clients in tax controversies before the Internal Revenue Service.
Earlier in her career, from 1992 to 1999, Corwin practiced as an attorney at the law firm of Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C., and served as a judicial clerk for then Chief Judge Levin Campbell on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
A frequent speaker and commentator on international tax rules and policies, Corwin is a member of the Massachusetts and the District of Columbia bar associations. Corwin is a 1991 graduate of the Boston University School of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of the Law Review. She earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1986.
