'Management and Prevention of Obesity' Seminar Presented at House of Sweden; Innovative Mandometer Treatment Featured
WASHINGTON, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Embassy of Sweden, Mando Group AB of Stockholm and Lenox Hill Hospital in New York presented a seminar and discussion on the "Management and Prevention of Obesity" yesterday to an audience of health policy experts, clinicians, academicians and others interested in the significant public health problem of obesity.
Featured in the presentation was the innovative Mandometer treatment method, which was developed by two Swedish researchers at the famed Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. The Mandometer method focuses on teaching patients satiety and how to eat rather than what they eat. Patients lose weight without going hungry. And the treatment is drug-free.
A research report published in the British Medical Journal in January 2010 indicated that the Mandometer treatment method had significantly better outcomes than traditional treatments for obesity among children.
Obesity is a major public health problem in the United States. Two-thirds of American adults and one-third of American children are overweight or obese. For the first time in modern history, the health of the American population may decline if the problem of obesity is not solved.
Speakers at the seminar included:
- Cecilia Bergh, Ph.D., CEO of Mando Group AB and a founder of Mandometer and Mandolean Clinics in Stockholm, Sweden, Australia, San Diego and New York
- Per Sodersten, Ph.D., Professor of Behavioral Neuroendocrinology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and a founder of Mandometer and Mandolean Clinics
- Suzanne Steinbaum, D.O., Director of Women and Heart Disease at the Heart and Vascular Institute at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York
- Michael Leon, Ph.D., Professor of Neurology and Behavior and Associate Dean of Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine
The seminar was a part of the "Health & Care" Spring Program that is being presented at the House of Sweden in Washington, D.C., from March 25 through June 6.
Mandometer plans to open a clinic at 261 East 78th Street in New York in June. The clinic will offer treatment for patients with obesity and eating disorder problems.
