Mana Contemporary Nominated For 'Oscars For Museums'
JERSEY CITY, N.J., Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mana Contemporary has been selected among finalists for the 2015 Leading Culture Destinations Awards, recognizing the world's most visionary museums and cultural institutions.
Mana, a 2 million-square-foot leading art center celebrating the creative process with more than 10 exhibition spaces, a theater, dance studio, foundry, silkscreen studio, and 150 artist studios, is home to renowned organizations such as the Ayn Foundation, the Richard Meier Model Museum, the International Center of Photography, the Florence Academy of Art, and many others.
Mana was named one of five best 'Emerging Culture Destinations' in North America, including the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Winnipeg (Canada); Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, New York (USA); The Aspen Art Museum, Aspen (USA); and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (USA). The Leading Culture Destinations Awards will be held on October 9 at the Jumeirah Hotel in London.
The Award celebrates the vibrancy and vitality of museums and institutions around the world, which are constantly evolving. Today cultural destinations are not only dedicated to art experiences and education; they have become social hubs for visitors to spend time, dine, shop, work and even sleep.
"We are honored to be shortlisted with these prestigious institutions," said Eugene Lemay, founder and president of Mana Contemporary. "These awards highlight not only the importance of art in the public sphere, but also the exceptional level of innovation in the cultural sector."
This year the judging panel is chaired by Gail Dexter Lord of Lord Cultural Resources, one of the world's leading consultancies for cultural capital. Other panelists are Justine Simons OBE, Head of Culture at the Mayor of London's office, fashion designer Neil Barrett, and ArtNet CEO Jacob Pabst.
"Mana caught our jury's attention for the exciting artists, organizations, and audience that it is attracting," said Florian Wupperfield, managing director of Leading Culture Destinations. "We are delighted to recognize this innovative and integrated creativecommunity."
The shortlist and winners are selected from a long list of nominations put together by global Ambassadors, who are drawn from the community of the world's most influential and travelled creative professionals – all of them cultural nomads, committed to supporting the arts and innovation wherever in the world they might be.
