Malong Technologies: Global Collaboration and Openness Are the Keys to AI's Potential
SHENZHEN, China, Dec. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Following a series of successful initiatives in Germany and Switzerland, Malong Technologies' co-founder and chief executive officer Dr. Dinglong Huang returned home last week with fresh perspectives on the potential of artificial intelligence, and the importance of global collaboration and openness to realize that potential. At Hamburg Summit 2018, Dr. Huang appeared on a panel focused on European consumer and retail opportunities. In Switzerland, Dr. Huang met with leaders of the University of Bern to plan the next steps in the new joint laboratory to apply AI to neurological research, announced November 16.
"While retail and medicine are obviously very different fields, they share a strong interest in AI-driven image recognition technologies," said Huang. "Moreover, executives and opinion leaders in those industries share an even stronger interest in learning from and working with innovators from all over the world. Everyone I met with understood the imperative of collaboration and openness – not just to sustain progress in technological research, but to keep their organizations and industries vibrant for the sake of their communities and stakeholders."
Announced November 16 via a signing ceremony at Shenzhen's High-Tech Fair 2018, the University of Bern-Malong Technologies Medical AI Joint Laboratory will operate in two locations - one in Shenzhen, China, and one in Bern, Switzerland. Malong and the University will each assign research scientists and engineers to combined teams focused on integrating AI with biomedical engineering and basic research to dramatically improve brain disease prediction, diagnosis and prognosis, and to develop new cures.
The new partnership combines one of the world's top brain research institutions with one of the world's leaders in computer vision and image recognition. Shenzhen and Bern established a sister-city relationship in 2015.
Malong and the University of Bern will begin setting up the joint lab's two locations immediately, with emphasis on personnel and infrastructure. As the work together progresses, its scientists and engineers will engage on developing increasingly sophisticated, world-class AI-based research and applications.
