FAIRFAX, Va., Aug. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society of Interventional Radiology invites practicing physicians, early career professionals, research scientists, clinical associates, trainees and medical students to submit original research for possible presentation at SIR's 44th Annual Scientific Meeting, March 23–28, 2019, in Austin, Texas. Online abstract submission is open until 5 p.m. ET on Sept. 27, 2018.
Scientific research will take center stage at SIR 2019, which is expected to attract more than 5,000 attendees from around the globe to the live music capital of the world—Austin. Accepted researchers will have the opportunity to advance the field of image-guided interventions by sharing their discoveries, device and procedure innovations, clinical outcomes, and basic science research in areas that address many of today's most challenging medical problems, including cancer, obesity, venous disease and stroke.
Submissions may be accepted for oral presentation or electronic poster presentation for scientific abstracts and traditional paper posters for educational exhibits. Please note that single-case reports will not be accepted. Accepted scientific abstracts will be published in SIR's flagship publication, the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. Selected abstracts will be designated as "Distinguished," "Featured" or "Abstract of the Year." Additionally, national and international consumer and trade media report on groundbreaking research presented at SIR 2019.
Research awards and travel scholarships are available through SIR Foundation for medical students, residents and fellows whose abstracts are accepted for oral presentation at SIR 2019. Online applications are open for the Resident/Fellow Research Award, the Dr. Constantin Cope Medical Student Research Award and the Dr. Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award. Additional scholarships for North America-based trainees are available through the SIR Medical Student Scholarship and SIR Resident-in-Training Scholarship programs.
