Make Your New Year's Resolution a Success: Commit to Going the Distance for Breast Cancer
Registration now open for the newest Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R) fitness event
DALLAS, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- It's resolution time again. Losing weight, getting fit and volunteering to help others top resolution lists each January(1). Setting a realistic goal and making a commitment to others are great strategies to battle resolution dissolution. Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has a portfolio of fitness events to accommodate both, including the organization's newest event, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure(TM).
The Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a three-day, 60-mile walk - the greatest distance you can go in the fight against breast cancer.
Women are more likely than men to cite motivation and boredom as the top reasons for not exercising(2). The Komen 3-Day for the Cure provides individuals with months of training, group activities and a challenging goal to stave off boredom while fundraising for a worthy cause.
"Participating in the Komen 3-Day for the Cure puts a creative twist on traditional fitness resolutions," said Emily Callahan, vice president of marketing at Susan G. Komen for the Cure. "Training to walk 60 miles in three days requires commitment. A realistic training schedule and support from fellow walkers and coaches help more than 35,000 people complete that commitment every year."
Komen 3-Day for the Cure participants physically prepare and fundraise for months before embarking on the weekend-long journey. Online resources including a 24-week training schedule, fundraising ideas and additional tools are available every step of the way. Registration for the event is now open at The3Day.org or 800-996-3DAY.
Like other Komen events, proceeds from the 3-Day for the Cure fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. For the last 27 years, Komen for the Cure grants have played a crucial role in virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer. But there is still much more work to be done. This year alone 1.3 million women and men will be diagnosed with breast cancer globally. However, fundraising platforms like the 3-Day for the Cure assist Komen in narrowing the gaps in treatment.
