REDDING, Calif., May 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrate the spectacular northern California city of Redding as you remember the brave this Memorial Day weekend. Known for offering visitors an array of outdoor adventures, Redding has some special opportunities this Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26 including:
California 100
The challenging California 100 is a 100 mile paddle race on the Sacramento River, beginning under the stunning Sundial Bridge in Redding and finishing near Chico. This moving water, round-the-clock event is open to all paddle sport enthusiasts: Sea Kayak, Marathon Canoes, Surfski, Stand Up Paddle Boards and Outriggers. Whether you want to take up a paddle in the West coast's only paddling ultra-marathon or just spend a fun weekend with those who do, the California 100 is May 24-26th.
50th Annual Whiskeytown Memorial Regatta
President Kennedy dedicated the Whiskeytown Dam in 1963, and a year later the Whiskeytown Memorial Regatta set sail. Now, hundreds of boats later, new, returning, and even third generation sailors will celebrate the 50th anniversary of that first race. The Whiskeytown Regatta takes place May 24 & 25th.
Pros and Joes BBQ Grilldown
Taste the best BBQ in northern California from the grills of the seasoned pros or the renegade upstart average Joes. This open air event in downtown Redding is a great way to kickoff the summer BBQ season. The fun includes a judged blind tasting and people's choice award, refreshments and live music by The Billies, all while enjoying the aromatic splendor of a fine American tradition. Those wishing to enter the Pros and Joes contest must register by May 10. The grilldown takes place on Saturday, May 24th.
