WASHINGTON, June 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With 19,718 people casting their vote during Early Voting in the District of Columbia, residents were able to exercise their constitutional right by marking their selections and casting their vote with Election Systems & Software's (ES&S) ExpressVote® Universal Voting System and DS200® in-precinct vote scanner and tabulator in eight of the nine early voting sites. D.C. also utilized the DS850 high-speed scanner, for efficient mail ballot processing, and Electionware on Election Day. Margarita Mikhaylova, spokesperson for the D.C. Board of Elections contributed, "Voters found the system easy to use during public demonstrations."
The Board of Elections also utilized wireless modeming to quickly report Election Night results with 93% of their precincts being reported within 40 minutes of polls closing. Wireless capabilities were part of the Board's decision to go forward with the ExpressVote and DS200. "Wireless modeming was a win for everyone during this Primary," Ms. Mikhaylova added. "We were able to be 100% reported in less than two hours, a first for the District."
Facts at a glance:
- This Primary Election Season, nearly 10,000 ExpressVote units have been deployed around the U.S.
- ExpressVote Activation Cards significantly reduce ballot costs for early voting as they are not pre-printed with contests or candidates. Ballot styles for every precinct are stored on the ExpressVote.
- Voters make their selections utilizing the ExpressVote's touch screen so there are no marginal or indiscriminate marks. A paper record is maintained.
- The ExpressVote – DS200 configuration streamlines Early Voting procedures for poll workers and simplifies Election Day for voters.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to bring visionary voting to our Nation's capital," remarked Tom Burt, President & CEO of ES&S. "With wireless modeming, results were available on Election Night quickly and accurately." Wil Wesley, Business Development Manager for ES&S stated "ES&S is committed to continuing and strengthening the partnership we have established with the District of Columbia Board of Elections heading into November."
