Major National Latino Conservative Organization Condemns Florida Governor Charlie Crist for Dropping Pro-Life Platform
Calls on Crist to Sign HB 1143 into Law
WASHINGTON, June 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles expressed disappointment today in Florida Governor Charlie Crist's removal of his previously stated pro-life platform from the official web site of his campaign for the U.S. Senate.
"In his attempt to reinvent his candidacy, Charlie Crist has taken the unprecedented step of turning his back on the unborn," said Alfonso Aguilar, the Latino Partnership's Executive Director. "By doing this, Charlie Crist also turns his back on Latinos, who are predominantly pro-life and who were critical to his election in 2006."
Aguilar also urged Governor Crist to immediately sign into law HB 1143, a bill passed by the Florida legislature which gives women the opportunity to view an ultrasound before they decide to undertake an abortion.
"Signing HB 1143 is an opportunity for Mr. Crist to carry out the wishes of Florida voters and recover some of the confidence of Latino voters concerned by his recent action," stated Aguilar.
