Major International Projects Are Showcasing at MAPIC 2010
17 - 19 November 2010 - Palais des Festivals, Cannes
PARIS, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- MAPIC 2010 will provide a unique overview of shopping centres in its exhibition area. Among new developments are major projects from such promising markets as Latin America, North Africa and Turkey, which are increasingly being targeted by European property players.
"The globalization of consumption patterns is driving the emergence of outstanding shopping centres on an international scale, especially in high growth potential regions. These markets are currently opening up significant opportunities and are much coveted not only by developers and architects wishing to export their know-how, but also by international retailers intent on expanding their networks," says Nathalie Depetro, Director of MAPIC.
Large-scale projects under development in Brazil, Egypt and Turkey, in collaboration with European professionals will therefore be centre-stage in the MAPIC exhibition halls this year.
The developer Sonae Sierra (Portugal) will present its project in Brazil for Boulevard Londrina Shopping. "We want to consolidate our portfolio with investment in new, modern and differentiated shopping centres. Boulevard Londrina Shopping is the first development of Sierra Brasil in Parana state where we detected a great potential market," says Jose Tomas Baeta, CEO of Sonae Sierra Brazil. Integrated into the Marco Zero mixed services complex, this project should revitalize the city of Londrina in southern
Brazil. Spanning a total area of 80,000m2, the shopping centre will have over 200 shops, 25 cafes and restaurants, a Walmart superstore and a large recreational area. Its architecture directly inspired by the British national flag is both original and environmentally friendly. This low energy consumption site is due to be certified ISO 14001 once it is completed in 2012.
Presented by the owner Cleopatra group (Egypt), the architectural company Design International (UK) and the leasing company DI Leasing, the Cleopatra Mall project aims to become the benchmark mixed-use shopping and entertainment site in Egypt. Located in the 6th October City, the biggest residential expansion of Cairo, near the Giza pyramids, this massive centre will harmoniously combine architecture inspired by the splendors of the past with modern design, featuring a symbolic "wave in the desert" on its roof. Transparent facades and skylights will provide plentiful natural light. This innovative project, which will become the first shopping and entertainment centre open 24 hours a day, is due to be delivered in 2012. It will include a 5,000m2 artificial lake for holding aquatic shows, a luxury area, a five-star hotel, offices, a spa, a nightclub, a wide selection of fine-dining restaurants and lake-view cafes, a cinema complex, a daycare centre, a medical centre and a mosque. The 350,000m2 project is expected to welcome 18 million visitors in its first year of operation.
The Dutch group Multi Corporation is deepening its leadership in Turkey with well over a dozen new commercial projects. Among these flagship achievements is the 175,000m2 Forum Istanbul shopping centre, the largest project of its kind in Turkey to date. This key site focuses on leisure and entertainment, with a giant aquarium, a bowling alley, a skating rink, a cinema and activities for children. Other sites under construction such as Forum Kayseri and Forum Marmara are also eagerly awaited. This market is much sought after by all retail real estate professionals and will be very much in the spotlight in this year's MAPIC exhibition area in the "Turquality" pavilion that will house a dozen retail brands.
