Major Force Protection and Anti-Terrorist Equipment Demonstration Set for Next May 17-19 in Northern Virginia
WASHINGTON, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The eighth edition of the United States' federally produced Force Protection Equipment Demonstration (FPED VIII) will be presented at Stafford Regional Airport, Stafford, VA, next May 17-19. The airport is located adjacent to Interstate-95, in Northern Virginia, 40 miles south of Washington, DC.
The demonstration is the largest event of its kind featuring live presentations of commercial off-the-shelf equipment to meet current and evolving force protection needs, anti-terrorist requirements, and the demands of an increasingly broad range of other physical security threats and challenges. Theme of the 2011 demonstration is "Force Protection Through Integrated Physical Security Solutions." The event website is located at: http://www.fped8.org
More than 600 exhibitors will demonstrate nearly 3,500 technologically advanced products from 20 categories of equipment and systems. Manufacturers will demonstrate their products' capabilities for reducing vulnerability of personnel, infrastructure equipment from threats such as improvised explosive devices, car bombs, suicide bombers, chemical and biological agent dispersants, and nuclear materials, among others, in both combat environments and domestic settings. All demonstrated items must be available for procurement and testing within the 90 days immediately following FPED VIII.
The Force Protection Equipment Demonstration series was initiated by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as a result of the bombing at Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1996. Since then, an FPED has been held every two years. The Department of Defense's Physical Security Equipment Action Group will direct the 2011 edition of the event and, with the Department of Energy and the Technical Support Working Group, will sponsor FPED VIII. The demonstration is coordinated and executed by the Product Manager, Force Protection Systems.
The FPED series serves U.S. leaders in defense, homeland security, nuclear security, first-response, and other agencies, as well as in state and local law enforcement, physical security and first-responder organizations throughout the United States and serving abroad. It also serves leaders in force protection and anti-terrorism from among U.S. allies. Persons in security and response positions are encouraged to attend and see, first-hand, the latest in immediately available force protection, anti-terrorist and first-response equipment and technology. The event is not open to the general public. It is open to defense, law enforcement and other physical security and first-response personnel, and to members of the media who cover defense, homeland security and first-responder operations and training.
All persons interested in attending the 2011 Force Protection Equipment Demonstration are required to register for the event. Online registration will become available in mid-December, 2010. Further details on FPED VIII, including registration specifics, are provided at http://www.fped8.org
