Good Shepherd Food Bank Hosts Cooking Matters at the Store Day at Hannaford

PORTLAND, Maine, July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Good Shepherd Food Bank and Maine SNAP-Ed will empower low-income residents of Maine with the shopping skills needed to stretch their food dollar and serve healthy, affordable meals to their families. At Hannaford Supermarket in Biddeford, on Tuesday, July 15, families will learn to compare unit prices, purchase fruits and vegetables on a budget, read food labels, and pick out whole grains. The first 200 people to complete the store tour will receive a gift card for $10 worth of healthy groceries.
Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters program is part of the No Kid Hungry campaign working to end childhood hunger in America. In Maine, Cooking Matters is implemented through a partnership between the Good Shepherd Food Bank and Maine SNAP-Ed.
Maine SNAP-Ed is funded by the USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, which is administered by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and implemented through a contract with the University of New England (UNE).
