Magnus Cort Nielsen Rides ROKA SL-1x Eyewear To Tour de France Stage 15 Win
With the lightest and most advanced eyewear in the peloton, Nielsen conquered the Pic de Nore and sprinted away to his first career Tour de France stage victory.
AUSTIN, Texas, July 23, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- ROKA athlete Magnus Cort Nielsen won Sunday's Stage 15 of the Tour de France, taking ROKA's Advanced Performance eyewear to the top step of this year's Tour podium for the second time. Riding in the ultralight SL-1x, the Team Astana rider rode hard in an early breakaway and found himself in the lead group, down to just three riders after summiting the Pic de Nore. Racing into the medieval city of Carcassone, the powerful Dane led into the final hundred meters and launched his attack, surging away to take the first Tour de France stage win of his young career.
Having previously won two stages of the Vuelta a España, Cort Nielsen was a marked man in the final kilometers of the race into Carcassone. His two rivals forced him to lead out the sprint. With just a hundred meters to go, Cort Nielsen unleashed a vicious kick that could not be matched. Known primarily as a puncheur and classics racer, Sunday's win is the biggest victory of the 25-year-old's career and bodes well for his future in the grand tours.
"We designed Advanced Performance optics to meet the demands of world-class athletes like Magnus and Dan," said ROKA CEO and Co-founder Rob Canales. "We're a newcomer, an underdog in the eyewear market. To come away with these two stage victories speaks volumes about the athletes who choose ROKA and the performance of our product. We couldn't be more proud of their performances."
Magnus Cort Nielsen joins Dan Martin, who also rode the SL-1x to a victory in Stage 6. The SL-1x features a patented GEKO™ fit and retention system, designed to handle an explosive effort like Cort's powerful sprint Sunday, while being the lightest, and largest unobstructed view in the peloton. With an adjustable titanium core wire allowing for a custom fit, the SL-1x is perfect in a high speed Tour de France finish, where a rider can't afford to stop to make any eyewear adjustments. Weighing just 21 - 29 grams, the Advanced Performance collection was painstakingly designed to shave every gram possible, a feature that was critical Sunday, where Cort Nielsen faced a sprint finish after a long ascent of the Pic de Nore.
