Magenium Solutions Wins Glen Ellyn's 2014 Architectural Award For Building Design
GLEN ELLYN, Ill., Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Glen Ellyn Village Board meeting held Monday evening, Aug. 25, 2014, Magenium Solutions was awarded the annual award for Excellence in Building Design. The traveling trophy is chosen each year by the Architectural Review Commission and resides at the winner's location until the following year's winner is announced. Magenium Solutions completely renovated a 12,000 sq. ft. building into an "office of the future."
Tom LaMantia, Managing Director of Magenium, accepted the award. As he proudly held the trophy above his head like the Stanley Cup winners often do, he thanked the Village, the planning commission and all those who participated in the success of the building renovation. Mr. LaMantia especially acknowledged Christopher Lauriat, Director of Architecture at Church Building Architects, who was the primary designer on the project and in attendance at the presentation.
In addition, Mr. LaMantia spoke highly of the commitment to the project by lead builder, Pete Stamos of GeoStam Construction and John Wilcox of OEC Business Interiors, contractors of the furniture and office spaces.
The building at 535 Pennsylvania Ave., Glen Ellyn, IL, was originally constructed in 1930's as a sorting facility for the United States Post Office. Later it served as a grocery store, and later as an indoor antique mall. For the past several years it remained vacant, in need of restoration and repair, awaiting its rebirth.
Magenium purchased the building in 2013 and moved into the state of the art facility February of this year. The new space features vaulted ceilings, technology-filled conference rooms, a full kitchen, outdoor patio, and an indoor basketball court. In addition, the building houses a retail photography studio and gallery in the front.
"This project was a melding of everyone's expertise – it saved us time and money and the end result far exceeded our expectations," said Deb Traxinger, owner. "We chose Church Building Architects because we liked their attention to detail and their ability to create buildings where people come together in a sense of community. And with OEC, we were able to choose the latest and coolest in office furnishings. Together we were able to rapidly articulate and implement our interior design ideas."
"We wanted to create a space that inspires both employees and customers. It's an open environment with easy accessibility for collaboration. The moment you walk into the lobby, we want people to feel like they've stepped into a special place. I think we achieved our goals…and more," stated Christopher Lauriat, Architect.
"We've received nothing but pleased responses and jaw-dropping excitement from everyone who visits," said Colleen LaMantia, Magenium's owner. "We didn't set out to win awards, but in addition to this award, we recently were named as one of Illinois' Best Places to Work. It's a confirmation of our commitment to our employees and our values."
