Maëlle Gavet Joins Compass As Chief Operating Officer
Fast-Growing Real Estate Technology Firm Appoints the Former Executive Vice President of Global Operations at The Priceline Group
NEW YORK, Jan. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Compass, a technology-driven real estate platform, announced today that it has hired Maëlle Gavet as chief operating officer. Effective January 30, Gavet will oversee technology, product, marketing, and other corporate functions, and will report to co-founder and chief executive officer Robert Reffkin.
Gavet's hire comes on the heels of a tremendous 2016 for Compass, having successfully closed their series D round of fundraising, achieved more than $180 million in annual revenue, and expanded to nine markets across the U.S., bringing the total number of Compass offices to twenty-six.
"As we continue to build the twenty-first century real estate industry leader, we sought to strengthen our management team by hiring an experienced operator with an impressive track record leading technology-driven businesses through rapid growth," said Reffkin. "We found this and much more in Maëlle Gavet. With her experience leading global operations for the third largest e-commerce company in the world and managing and building high-performing teams, I am confident that Maëlle will successfully drive and execute the company's strategic priorities and accelerate our growth."
Co-founder and executive chairman Ori Allon, who has sold companies to Google and Twitter, commented, "The incredible caliber of our talent across technology, real estate, and business is a differentiator for Compass, and Maëlle adds valuable technology and entrepreneurial experience to our senior team. She will be instrumental in shaping the next phase of Compass's growth as we continue to build new technology and transform the real estate experience for agents and consumers."
Reflecting on her decision to join Compass, Gavet cited the company's market opportunity, technology and talent as driving forces. "I believe that Compass is uniquely positioned to transform the residential real estate industry – one of the largest global markets that has been largely untouched by technology," said Gavet. "Compass has achieved a tremendous amount in a short period of time and I look forward to working with the team to scale its impact in both new and existing markets and to ultimately deliver a more seamless home buying, selling and renting experience."
Named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, one of Fortune's 40 Under 40 and one of the Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company, Gavet is an international leader with experience managing strategy and operations for some of the world's largest technology companies. Most recently, Gavet oversaw global operations at The Priceline Group where she was tasked with driving the company's strategy and integrating its six major brands: Booking.com, priceline.com, KAYAK, agoda.com, rentalcars.com and OpenTable. Prior to The Priceline Group, Gavet was the chief executive officer of Russia's largest e-commerce site and a principal at The Boston Consulting Group where she served technology, media and telecommunications companies in Europe, India and South Africa.
