Madness, Archive, C2C, Lou Doillon, Asaf Avidan, Balthazar and Birdy Hunt To Perform At Second midem festival In Cannes
"PLAY MIDEM LIVE 2013" COMPETITION TO PLACE NEW TALENT ON THE MIDEM FESTIVAL STAGE
PARIS, Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- midem announces today the second edition of the live music midem festival, featuring an international roster of acclaimed headliners and a one-of-a-kind competition allowing the public to vote for emerging artists and get them to perform in front of the midem global audience. As part of the midem tradeshow (26-29 January 2013) and organised by Reed MIDEM, the midem festival will take place every night from Saturday 26 to Monday 28 January on the Palais des Festivals' esplanade, in Cannes, France.
Following the success of its inaugural edition and sponsored by Opel ADAM, the 2013 programme of the midem festival will present ten concerts over three nights at the heart of the world's largest music market. Performed inside a specially built Magic Mirrors venue and in front of an audience of both international music professionals and general music fans, each concert programme will be preceded by a happy hour networking event with DJ sets between 6.30pm and 8.00pm. Registered midem participants will have access to every concert and invitations are available for the general public through the City of Cannes, midem's media partners (Les Inrockuptibles, Infoconcert...) and on midemfestival.com.
The midem festival 2013 talent line-up includes, on Saturday 26 January, the world-renowned British band Madness, who recently performed at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert and at the Olympic Games closing ceremony and who's new album Oui Oui, Si Si, Ja Ja, Da Da was just released this week through Cooking Vinyl/Atmospheriques. Also playing that night, the Israeli singer-songwriter and musician, Asaf Avidan, often referred to as "the lovechild of Dylan and Joplin" because of his exceptionally strong voice. Avidan's new solo album, Different Pulses, is set to be released internationally through Polydor/Universal on January 28th, right in the middle of midem.
Playing on Sunday 27 January, the internationally-acclaimed French electro/urban music quartet, C2C, ranked #1 at the DMC World DJ Championships four times in a row (2003-2006). Creating an original blend of electro, soul and hip-hop moods and using turntables as a bona fide musical instrument, C2C's first album, Tetra, was released last September and their DJ battles reached over seven million views on YouTube. The winner of the midem 2013 official soundtrack competition and praised French pop/rock sextet, Birdy Hunt, will take the midem stage that same night, after proving their skills on British stages and at the biggest festivals in France, including Rock en Seine and the Printemps de Bourges.
On Monday 28 January, London/Paris/Brighton-based collective Archive will present their new album With Us Until You're Dead. Part-orchestral, part-electronic, part-soulful, part-progressive, the album is said to touch tangents with Massive Attack, Radiohead, UNKLE, Secret Machines and Pink Floyd. Long-time 30 year-old actress and model Lou Doillon comes to Cannes with her first and celebrated album Places. The half-sister of Charlotte Gainsbourg and daughter of British singer Jane Birkin and French film director Jacques Doillon is musically produced by French star-singer Etienne Daho and music studios wizard Zdar. Also playing that night, Balthazar is one of Belgium's most promising indie rock outfits, whose new album, Rats, has recently been released through Pias. The band's powerful mix of extremes — furious and rhythmic, silent and attractive, precise and enchanting — is often compared to the work of its elders Absynthe Minded, dEUS or Soulwax/2manydj's.
Through a partnership between midem and Indaba Music, the new and worldwide Play midem Live 2013 competition invites musicians and bands to submit an original song and gives them the exclusive opportunity to perform on the midem festival stage next to international headliners. The competition's call for entry is open until Monday 19 November and the public will listen to the submitted tracks and vote for the two best bands through Indaba from Tuesday 20 until Friday 30 November 2012.
Through midemfestival.com, midem is the launching partner of Bandpage Connect, a new service especially built for musicians to facilitate the access and integration — either as extensions or raw API data — of the musician's Bandpage content on other platforms.
The ADAM, Opel's new fashionable urban car, has chosen midem as the music partner to boost and associate the brand to the music world. As such, Opel ADAM will be one of the main sponsors of the midem festival 2013 and will hold several street marketing events.
