WAUKESHA, Wis., June 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cardiac Science chose the newly renovated Edgewater Hotel — a Madison, Wis., landmark — for their sales meeting to unveil its new Powerheart G5 automated external defibrillator (AED). The hotel, in turn, chose the company's groundbreaking AED to help protect its guests from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
"The Edgewater is more than a hotel. It's a community destination," said Amy Supple, COO of The Edgewater. "We have 202 hotel rooms, more than 12,000 square feet of meeting space, a plaza for public for events, three restaurants and a 20-slip marina. Given the highly dynamic nature of our property, buying AEDs was right for us."
Cardiac Science, an Opto Circuits group company and global leader in AEDs, launched the next-generation AED earlier this year. It is the first FDA-cleared AED to offer a combination of automatic shock delivery, variable escalating energy, and rapid shock times; the easy-to-use device allows anyone, from a first-time user to a professional, to respond to an SCA incident.
SCA is the nation's No. 1 killer. According to the American Heart Association, approximately 369,000 people die of SCA each year. A victim's survival depends on how soon cardio-pulmonary respiration (CPR) is given and how quickly the victim receives a shock from an AED.
"We selected the Powerheart G5 because of the user-friendliness of the system," Supple said. "Cardiac Science provided training and competitive pricing — and we're buying from a Wisconsin company."
Opened in 1948, the historic lakefront hotel recently underwent a complete renovation that included the addition of a third building. The Edgewater now offers 202 guest rooms, three restaurants, a café, and a plaza with nearly an acre of space for public events.
The hotel has placed a Powerheart G5 in each of its three buildings for easy access by hotel staff.
"Cardiac Science is proud to partner with The Edgewater, a landmark institution in the state capital," said Al Ford, Cardiac Science General Manager and Senior Vice President of Sales / Marketing. "The hospitality industry has saved many lives by equipping properties with AEDs and training staff to provide a rapid response to cardiac arrest incidents when they occur."
Cardiac Science is a leader in helping hotels, country clubs, resorts and other hospitality organizations develop AED programs to help protect their guests and staff. The company's AED customers include the Sheraton Hotel, Starwood, Best Western, and Wyndham Vacation Properties.
