Madison Bumgarner Records 200th Strikeout of the Season Bringing the Total Money Raised for Veterans to Over $100,000 in Carhartt's "Strikeouts for Vets" Campaign
Helmets to Hardhats will receive all proceeds raised through the campaign to help transitioning military members find meaningful civilian careers in the trades
DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- All-star pitcher Madison Bumgarner recorded his 200th strikeout for the season yesterday, striking out seven Los Angeles batters. In doing so, Bumgarner increased the money tally to $101,000 in Carhartt's "Strikeouts for Vets" campaign.
Carhartt, America's premium workwear brand since 1889, partnered with Bumgarner for the 2016 baseball season to help transitioning active-duty military service members find meaningful careers in the trades. Carhartt is donating $500 for every strikeout that Bumgarner records during the regular season with all proceeds going to Helmets to Hardhats, a national nonprofit program that helps military service members successfully transition back into civilian life by offering them the means to secure a quality career in the building and trade industry.
With a season total of 202 strikeouts and potentially six more starts, Bumgarner is well on his way to set a career-best in strikeouts. Bumgarner is currently third in the league in strikeouts. Carhartt did not set a cap for this campaign and will donate the full amount earned.
"Madison has come up big this season, posting career bests to raise money for deserving military service members," said Tony Ambroza, senior vice president of marketing at Carhartt. "Every fifth game Madison goes to the mound and outworks them all, and as a result, is making it possible for transitioning military veterans to go to work. We're rooting for him to close out the year strong."
