Made In Dagenham Soundtrack Album Features Title Track Performed by U.K. Music Icon Sandie Shaw and Penned by Billy Bragg
Album Also Includes Classic '60s Hits By The Temptations, James Brown, The Kinks And More
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 23, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Flash back to 1968 with the soundtrack album to Made In Dagenham, a new British comedy-drama in the tradition of The Full Monty and by the director of the acclaimed Calendar Girls. Highlighted by the title track written especially for the film by well-known folk-punk-protest artist Billy Bragg and performed by U.K. music icon Sandie Shaw, Made In Dagenham - Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Hip-O/UMe), released in digital only format November 16, 2010, also features some of the era's biggest hits from the likes of James Brown, The Temptations, Traffic, The Kinks, Dusty Springfield, Small Faces, Mama Cass, Desmond Dekker and more.
Shaw was one of the most popular British female singers of the '60s (known as the "barefoot pop princess" because of her habit of not wearing shoes on stage). Coincidentally, she had worked in the Ford factory in her hometown Dagenham a few years prior to the 1968 incident recalled in the film, when the female workers took to the picket lines to ensure fair working rights for women. By then, Shaw had already become a star--dubbed the Dagenham Diva--with her 1964 rendition of "(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me." That recording, also included on the soundtrack album, hit #1 in the U.K. She would later become the first U.K. act to win the Eurovision Song Contest. Today, Shaw remains an enormously popular musical figure in the U.K.
The Nigel Cole-directed Made In Dagenham was released on November 19, 2010, in New York and L.A., and subsequently other cities, by Sony Pictures Classics.
